Registering a Birth in Cyprus

Birth certificate, apostille, and the nationality questions that follow.

Typical appointment: 45 min

A child born in Cyprus is registered locally, and for foreign parents the certificate is only the start. It usually has to be apostilled and translated for the parents' home country, and the child needs to be added to your residence permit — which is a separate application with its own timing. Nationality doesn't follow automatically from being born here. What the child is entitled to depends on the parents' status, and it's worth knowing before you file anything.

What's included

  • ✓Registration with the local authority and the birth certificate
  • ✓Apostille and sworn translation for use abroad
  • ✓Adding the child to your residence permit
  • ✓Guidance on the child's nationality position based on the parents' status
  • ✓Coordination with your embassy where the home country requires its own registration
