Cyprus opened this route for people whose income comes from somewhere else entirely — remote employees of foreign companies, and freelancers whose clients are abroad. It is not a work permit for the Cyprus market. Take on Cyprus-registered clients and you are outside the scheme, and that is grounds for refusal or cancellation.
The application turns on proof. Not that you have a contract, but that the money actually arrives, from abroad, at the level required. Six months of bank statements carry more weight than any contract, because they show what happened rather than what was agreed.
The other thing worth knowing before you commit: this permit does not give you access to the national health system. Private insurance is required for the whole period, and it is not optional.
